I just picked up my Mossberg 715T from my FFL yesterday. I bring it home to inspect and I seem to have been sold a used firearm or one that was was damaged during shipment.
1. First, the magazine came disassembled with the spring and follower removed. Initially, I thought it comes like this and I need to put it together myself. Upon, looking closer I can see imperfections in the plastic pieces where it looks like the edges of the magazine and its upper portion have been filed down in what appears a forced attempt to make them fit. Manufacturer problem? Shipping caused them to be damaged? Sold a used gun? I have no idea. But, there’s no way to load and lock the magazine without causing additional damage to it or forcing it’s entry.
Second, there’s two more issues regarding the firearm itself. Using the operating handle to pull the bolt rearward, I see the following:
3. There are copious amounts of a lubricant from whomever had (or used?) this gun before it was shipped. I’ve never come across this much before and the oil/grease is telling.
4. Second, and more importantly, the red ring used to indicate if the safety is on the “on” position came snapped off.
Whether these issues came up during shipment or before, I don’t feel comfortable handling or even loading this weapon. There’s too many safety and what seems to be mechanical/physical concerns to risk firing live ammunition for something that either came incorrectly disassembled and/or interfered with and damaged.
