Ruger's AR-556 semi-automatic rifle is made from forged aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum. The hard coat anodized, flattop upper receiver includes a forward assist, dust cover and brass deflector, while the handguards are made from heat-resistant glass-filled nylon. It has a carbine-length, milled gas block with multiple attachment points for a QD socket, bayonet lug, and sling. Serrations on the angled face of the gas block provides a low-glare surface. The Rapid Deploy folding rear sight provides windage adjustability and the front sight post is elevation adjustable, and includes a front sight tool. The A2-style F-height allows co-witness with many optics. It also has a bolt machined from 9310 alloy steel, single-stage trigger, chrome-plated bolt carrier with a matte black oxide finish on the exterior, and patent pending barrel nut and Delta ring for one person handguard removal and installation. This model has a black Magpul MOE six-position buttstock, Magpul MOE M-LOK handguard, and a Magpul PMAG.

These are generally well made and a great AR choice.
I have two of these. Same make, same model. One is a few years older. I like the older one better. Side by side, it just looks better made. The barrel on the new one was turned faster. You can see the tool marks all the way up and down the barrel. That makes it look cheaper - especially sitting next to the older one. It also looks like in just two spots they slowed the progress of the cutting tool way down on the barrel for about a 1/16 an inch because those two spots on the barrel are smooth - like the entire barrel on my older example. The two shinny/smooth 'rings' on the barrel are about 3.25 inches apart and are clearly visible between the cage and the fore grip. This may just be how they are constructed now and perhaps the two smooth spots on the barrel are an artifact of the manufacturing process. Don't know but I won't buy another one of these without seeing it first as I've never seen an AR barrel, or any barrel, like this. It was the first thing that stood out when I opened the box. My older example has never been fired. Also, the rear site was installed but only just enough to keep it from falling off. It was rattling around loose. I bought the second one for the g.f. to use or whoever I take shooting. Looking at both rifles, this would be the one company uses - assuming I keep it.
