I purchased my Kimber Ultra CDP II 9mm about a year ago. Having no previous pistol experience, I took a series of three training courses, one being MAG20. The first course was a basic course where we preformed many drills consuming about 500 rounds. The very first was a jam, due to the fact that I didn't fully insert the magazine. Remember, I had never fired a pistol before nor have I ever inserted a magazine, so I don't blame the Kimber for the jam. Out of the 12 people in the course, all but myself and one woman, all were experienced shooters, most with decades of experience. At the end, they had a contest to see who was the best shooter. I won the competition in spite of 10, out of the 12 shooters having 5" barrels. This blew the instructor away that a brand new shooter could demonstrate such accuracy. Frankly, I give the instructor a lot of credit, for I had no bad habits to unlearn. FYI, drills distances included 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25 yards.
The next class was the advanced course about six months, again with many drills consuming about 500 rounds. Again, at the end of the day, I again took top position in the shoot-off competition. In this case, everyone had a 5" barrel and I only had my 3" barrel. FYI, drills distances included 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25 yards.
The MAG20 course was the next step up in training, offering different stance positions and other considerations. In the two day course, I went through 1,000 rounds. In the group of 12 shooters, all had a decade or more of pistol experience, except for me that had just over a year experience. Like the previous sessions, all had 5" barrels except for my 3" Kimber Ultra CDP II. I didn't win the top honor this time, as one of the Ranger instructors beat me out, but he was the only one who beat me. FYI, drills distances included 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25 yards. At the end, the MAG20 Instructor came to me and told me that he had heard that I was a pretty good shot. Now that he worked with me for two days, he said that I was one of the best shots he had ever seen for my level of experience.
Conclusion, I am in my 60's and have no previous experience in shooting pistols. I don't believe it is possible to consistently perform well on this level if the Kimber was not exceedingly accurate. All I can say is that if their spread was 4", mine was 2". At greater distances, their accuracy was almost always twice my spread. At the end of the MAG20 course, I had fired almost 2,500 rounds. I have not had another jam since I properly learned how to insert a magazine. Frankly, I don't know how you can do much better. Extremely concealable, reliable and you will hit where you aim with a very high degree of confidence. As a bonus, it is the best looking gun I have seen in my brief time in this sport. Thank you for allowing me to share my experience.
