I'll give it 5 stars based on it's a 5.7 x 28 carbine. Very limited choices for that, with good reason. A very expensive, very hard to find and fairly weak cartridge. I've read an article every few years since the round was invented that it's about to catch fire and take off. We're still waiting. You really have to want this particular cartridge. My reason is women and children moving up from a 22 and trying out a centerfire cartridge. It will not get much use. I put a Magpul foregrip on mine. Also, took the Ruger stock off and replaced with a Magpul CTR stock. It fits and works fine but the locking lever used to keep it from rattling around really doesn't work on the Ruger arm. The folding stock, itself, has a little bit of a wiggle but it's not bothersome. That is true of all of them for this model. It's attached by a pic rail. You can put on any stock you want. The trigger. It's pretty bad in numerous ways. It's 2.6 pounds. It's light, handy, fun to shoot, expensive to shoot and mine just needs a Romeo 5. This will really sell once it's released in 9mm. If I didn't have an AR, I would pick up an M&P Sport 2. If a pistol cartridge will work, I'd get a Beretta CX4 Storm carbine. Both cost less to buy and run. I'd like to see higher capacity factory mags. This comes with one mag and they are expensive. My example showed up in prefect shape.
When Ruger came out with its 57 platform, I almost bought one. Not having any 5.7x28 caliber guns would make this an oddity in my collection, but I’ve been interested in the 5.7x28 round for awhile and thought finally, someone besides FN offering this caliber in one of its guns; best of all Ruger. But still, it wasn’t enough for me to pull the proverbial “trigger” and purchase one. Then while reading my new Shooting Illustrated, I saw the Ruger LC or Lightweight Carbine; intrigued again, I went to my favorite gun site, Gun Zone, and low and behold, not only did you have them in stock, but they were nearly $300 under Ruger’s MSRP. With the addition of the LC, not only did Ruger further legitimize the 5.7x28 in my eyes but offered it as a lightweight rifle with a 16” barrel. This time I didn’t resist, and in fact bought both the Ruger LC and the 57. They won’t replace anything in my collection, but then who cares? The only drawback right now is the price of ammo; but hopefully with Ruger all-in, and others like FN, Palmetto State and CMMG making their own guns in this caliber, the prices and availability of ammo will improve. Shooting both the LC and the 57 are a blast – little to no recoil and both are extremely lightweight. Since they both share the same magazine, they make a versatile pair. Oh yeah, love that Ruger kept the magazine in the grip, like the 57 – makes the gun easier to maneuver (to me anyway) and adds to the clean lines of the gun. Now, we need to get those ammo prices down so my next trip to the range won’t cost me $200, just to put a couple hundred rounds in paper.
Thank you Gun Zone for the great service and prices, you continue to be my go-to place for everything that goes bang!
